Turmeric Turkey Burgers

Turkey burger on a brioche bun with a fried egg, guacamole, tomatoes, and cheese

This summer, my roommates and I came up with a list of exciting activities for the summer. Movies to watch, restaurants to try, workouts to do, places to visit etc. etc. And this Friday evening, my roommates and I decided to cross at least one item off of our list – girls night. We had a girls night with one of our friends. We cooked turkey burgers, ate cheese, drank wine, and decorated chocolate cookies with candy eyes. Oh, and we watched 27 Dresses. All in all, a great night 🙂

These turkey burgers are quite delicious. I made them once during the semester and they were a hit. I was walking back from class one day, already drooling while thinking about the turkey burgers that I would cook. But, I didn’t have any hamburger buns, and I really didn’t feel like driving to the grocery store to pick some up. So, I stopped at a local market downtown to see what bread they might have. Although I did not find hamburger buns, I did find these lovely brioche buns. And let me tell you, these buns were fantastic. Fluffy, soft, and just big enough to hold the many toppings that I pile on my burgers.I think that you’ll like these turkey burgers.

Ingredients

2 lbs ground turkey

1 tsp turmeric

1 tsp paprika

1 1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp dried basil and oregano (mixed or one or the other)

1/4 cup chopped parsley

Ground black pepper

Eggs, for frying (optional)

Cheese (optional)

Guacamole (optional)

Sliced tomatoes (optional)

Directions

In a bowl, mix the ground turkey, turmeric, paprika, salt, pepper, dried basil, dried oregano, and chopped parsley

Divide the ground turkey mixture into six equal portions patties.  Place the patties, in batches if necessary, on a nonstick pan. Cook for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side. While the turkey burgers are cooking, toast the brioche buns.

When the turkey burgers are done cooking, place the cooked turkey on a toasted brioche bun. Pile high with your favorite condiments and toppings. Enjoy!

If you are looking to top the burger with a fried egg, heat a few drops of oil in the same pan in which you cooked the turkey burgers. Crack an egg (or two or three) into the pan, and cover with a lid. Cook the egg to desired readiness (I went for runny. It’s messy, but delicious). Place the egg on top of the burger. Bon appetit!

They certainly look fantastic. I’m sure they would be great on their own, but as burgers! With a fried egg on top! So decadent.

Thank you! I actually ate a leftover turkey burger without the bun. Instead, I sauteed some vegetables and pan-fried some tomatoes. The result was equally fabulous. 🙂
